Kundli matching, or gun milan, scores the compatibility of two birth charts out of 36 points across eight koota factors, based mainly on the couple's Moon signs and nakshatras. A total of 18 or above is considered acceptable and 24 or above very good. It also checks for blocks like Nadi and Bhakoot dosha, which can outweigh a high raw score.
The eight kootas (Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi) each test a different layer of compatibility, from temperament and mutual attraction to health, mental wiring and progeny.
